'True Linux' PengPod
If you were among the many Linux fans whose interest was piqued by the PengPod "true Linux" tablet and mini PC line announced a few weeks ago, then this past weekend brought some good news for you.
Specifically, the project -- which last month was still seeking crowdfunding on Indiegogo -- surpassed its funding goal of $49,000, meaning it can now take the next step into production.
"We are now taking pre-orders directly through our site after a successful Indiegogo crowdfunding effort in which we raised more than $72,000," explains the website for the project, which is the brainchild of Peacock Imports.
Android botnet sends SMS spam through Android phones
In a new twist, spammers have built a botnet that sends SMS spam through infected Android phones, shifting the potentially pricey cost of sending spam to victims.
The trend, spotted by security vendor Cloudmark, poses a new challenge for operators. Victims whose phones are sending the SMS spam often do not know their phone is infected, and they could have their account suddenly shut down by their operator if abuse is detected.
"I think they [operators] are still working out how to deal with this," said Andrew Conway, lead software engineer with Cloudmark, which makes antispam products for operators.

As per usual, it is expected that Apple will release an "S" update before moving up an integer.
Possible features? Respected tech industry analyst Peter Misek is predicting it will come with a new "super HD camera/screen, a better battery and NFC [near field communication - used in such things as contactless payment systems]". He also claims that, like the Nano, the phone will be available in six to eight colours.

There has been speculation for some years that Apple would make a land grab for the TV market. Apple CEO Tim Cook recently remarked that turning on a TV is like going "backwards in time by 20 or 30 years". That is, like the music and phone industry previously, it's in need of an Apple update.
Possible features? Cult of Mac reported that the TV would feature both Siri and iSight to enable voice and face recognition – iPhones and iPads could also be used to control it.

Scientist has got success in linking the quantum properties of two separated ions using microwaves to manipulate them. This is currently done with the help of laser beams and now this advancement can shrink the size of quantum computers. This research has been done at NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) which has been published in Nature.
Microwaves have been used previously in manipulating single ions, but this is the first time when scientist from NIST used this on two separated ions places just 30 micrometers away.
